Jack Siadek, 68, passed away at home Nov. 2nd. He had bravely endured treatments for and complications from two cancers for 10 years. Born and raised in St. Louis, MO. Jan. 22, 1941, Jack followed a career in marketing that took him to Dallas, Tiburon and finally El Segundo. In El Segundo, Jack raised a young family, owned and operated two restaurants, became involved in local politics, and ultimately served on the city council and became the mayor. He pioneered community cable television and brought several Fortune 500 corporations to that town. Jack married former assemblywoman Leona Egeland in 1994 and moved to Napa. He worked throughout northern CA to develop senior housing and spent considerable time in local charity work. He served on the boards of the Napa interfaith Council and Congregation Beth Sholom. Jack personally built and donated ADA compliant home ramps for those confined to wheelchairs and spearheaded the countywide student essay contest on the positive aspects of diversity and the negative ramifications of prejudice. In 2002 Jack was selected to be a torchbearer for the winter Olympics. He and Leona travelled once a year to far flung destinations; ice fishing in Yellowknife, climbing to the base camp of Mt. Everest, and chasing total solar eclipses in three continents. They also enjoyed museums, old cemeteries, houses of worship and visiting government buildings on their trips. Jack is survived by his wife Leona, his mother Margaret Siadek, St. Louis, sons Jack A. Siadek, Jeff Siadek, and Jason Siadek of Los Angeles county, and Mark Rubenstein of St. Louis; a daughter Carla Siadek Wilson of Atlanta, two step daughters, Ilaan Egeland Mazzini of Los Angeles and Hylah Egeland of Napa, and 12 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Jack was grateful for the many friends and medical providers that gave him care, support and encouragement over the long years of enduring his cancers and their treatments. To the end his positive spirit was present and he was talking of another vacation trip. Services will be held Wed. at 2:30 at Congregation Beth Sholom. A memorial service will be conducted later in southern CA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the Lifelong learning fund of Congregation Beth Sholom, Napa Hospice, the Napa Volunteer Center or the Napa Emergency Women’s Center.
